The producer, Vinogradi Volarević, has estate vineyards proximate to the sea on slopes of rugged soil. It’s a dad-and-four-sons business that focuses solely on the indigenous grape variety, plavac mali that originates from the Dalmatian coast of Croatia. Plavac mali is a small berried grape variety that has zinfandel as a parent, alongside a rare variety called Dobričić. This wine spends some time in used oak barrels.

From the Komarna wine hills – Croatia’s newest wine-growing area (April 2013), with vines only planted in 2008. Tucked into the coastline opposite Peljesac, the vineyards are south-west facing, ranging in altitude from 250 metres right down to sea-level. Sweet spice, fruit – ripe plums and blackcurrant, warm, lifting acidity and firm tannins.

VINEYARDS VOLAREVIĆ is a new family firm founded on the initiative of a father and four sons. They decided that the field of quartz, the slope beside the sea in the bay opposite the peninsula of Peljesac is ideal to plant vineyards.
A vine here has triple insolation: sun-vine, sun-stone-vines and sun-sea-grapes. These extreme conditions can withstand only Plavac, indigenous variety of central and southern Dalmatia and variety that is adapted remarkably hot Mediterranean climate and barren rocky soil.

It is important to note that the entire vineyard processing is crafted manually and ecologically.
